The founder's story of how she developed a
coaching business around her Calling:
Like a lot of folks, I thought that if
I did all the right things, I'd be happy. I was lucky
enough to attend some world-class private schools for my primary and
secondary education; I fell in love with the field of Psychology
when I was sixteen and went on to college where I received a
bachelor's degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I
then proceeded to get a Master's degree in Counseling specializing
in Career Development
I landed my dream job as a Counselor
for the local public schools and was on my way to making a
difference in the world. I felt called to help people
at an early age and I had done everything I needed to do to fulfill
that calling. To the rest of the world, it probably looked
like I was in the perfect place to live out my passion, purpose, and
values. I could sit back for the next 25 years in the security
of a job with a public institution and then collect my
retirement.
There was just one problem, I was
bored and increasingly miserable. I tried everything
to rekindle the passion I felt when I first starting working.
I joined committees, volunteered, bought a house and car under the
assumption that more was better. After a couple
of years of trying to do more to gain a sense of
fulfillment, I was left with a feeling of exhaustion.
No matter how I rearranged my life,
there was still something missing. I then decided I
needed to change careers. Clearly, I had made a mistake
somewhere in this process and not entered a field where I could
genuinely make a difference in the world. So, I enrolled in
another master's degree program at the local University. That
lasted about a week as I didn't feel any excitement at all for the
coursework.
Now I was really lost.
After praying and asking for guidance daily, finally the
answer came. A friend of mine read an article in New Age
magazine about a new profession called, Coaching. I was
intrigued by the concept and had also been looking around for
technology to help my private practice
clients. Seemed I wasn't the only one who was
unhappy. In my private practice, I worked with adults to help
them make career changes. Sometimes, they would make radical
job shifts after our work together.
I would hear from clients months later
that despite moving into the "dream" job, they still weren't
happy. Two things seemed to account for
this. First, the rest of their lives weren't in good
shape; they had no balance in their relationships, fun, personal
growth etc. Something I could totally relate to
and secondly, the new job also failed to give them a sense of
fulfillment. Once they settled in, they saw that they
had traded one set of shortcomings for another. I began
to realize that there is more to life than just work (yes, I 'm
a recovering workaholic) and that human beings don't fit neatly into
job descriptions. We are multi-faceted, complex creatures
seeking greater and greater levels of self-expression.
I started a coaching training program
with Coaches Training Institute (CTI) and within two hours, I
knew this was exactly what I wanted to do with my life.
Over the next two years, I built my coaching business to
the point where I could leave my "safe" job. I've been
completely self-employed since 1999 and aside from the
occasional fear that comes up, I've loved every minute of it.
I get to live my values of Love, purpose, growth, collaboration, and
harmony. I'm also blessed to be on the faculty of CTI as a
Certification Program
Leader.
I really see how my gifts inspire
others to live their purpose and follow a their Calling
which honors the true Self and makes a positive impact in the
world. By working specifically with this niche, I get
to multiple my purpose to create a world that works for
everyone. I can't do it alone. So, not only do I
have great collaborations with other coaches, I have great
collaborations with my clients. As together we can make a
difference in the world, one step at a time.
I have been on a spiritual journey for
many years. Learning to meditate at the age of ten,
I've always had a deep faith in God. I honor all paths to God
and mine has been primarily through the study of New Thought and
metaphysics. Two years ago, I accomplished a major goal in my
life; I became a Master Certified Coach. The marriage of my
deep spiritual understanding with my practical coaching
self compels me to put my Calling out into the
world. Lately, I've noticed how all my life Spirit
has been using me to help make other people's dreams come
true. You can do it too.
Namaste!
